Pursue With Those

My name is Ty Orth. I am a recent college graduate with a B.S. in Aeronautical Science. My past employment includes Sales, Restaurant Management, and work as a Vocalist. I've been married for eight years.

I grew up in a Christian home. I have always been very aware of the Lord's mercy in placing me in this kind of arrangement. As a young boy I thought all people were saved, and would often ask poor, innocent bystanders if they wanted to pray with me. Around this time my family moved to Boston, MA. We lived in neighborhoods which were predominantly non-Christian. As a result there were many opportunities to preach the gospel to schoolmates. As a kindergartner I would even take my parents' tracts to pass them out to the high schoolers on my way to school in the morning. (I'm not sure what they thought of a gospel-preaching five-year-old, but I'd like to know one day if anyone got saved through that.) This was not something I was told to do. I was simply a young child following, as all children do, what I saw my parents and other adults doing: praying, and telling people that God loved them. This was my experience growing up in the local churches.

As I became older I became involved in many school activities, not very many of which were Christian. When my family moved from the neighborhood in the Boston area to Montana, everyone there seemed to be a fellow believer. Christians everywhere with the encouragement of my parents began to meet from time-to-time with various friends at their church or place of worship. I very much enjoyed it. During that time I fellowshipped with many Christians. I had very good fellowship with other believers who were fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Today I meet with the local churches but back then I enjoyed having fellowship with other brothers and sisters. My experience growing up in the local churches has been enjoyable.

So why am I meeting still with the local churches? It's because I have tasted the Lord Jesus Christ, and I love Him. The apostle Paul told Timothy in the New Testament to “pursue...with those who call out of a pure heart.” I can testify that when I pursue with these I love Him utterly, desire Him wholly, and am preserved from all the negative things we see in the world today. I love the Lord, and my heart is open to Him. But this is not simply my own doing. I'm very clear about this. It is the Lord's mercy, and it is through those with whom I grew up in the local churches.
